The Hype Score Algorithm

Ever wonder how we quantify AI hype? Here's the breakdown of our totally scientific and definitely not arbitrary scoring system.

How It Works

Our crawler visits each submitted website and performs a comprehensive analysis. It searches for AI-related buzzwords, measures how prominently they're displayed, and checks for flashy animations and visual effects.

The final Hype Score is a combination of all these factors. Higher scores mean more AI hype. It's that simple (and that ridiculous).

AI Buzzword Density

Weight: Piecewise scale from 0% to 10%+, with logarithmic word count boost

The percentage of a page's visible text that consists of AI buzzwords. This is the primary scoring factor. Pages with more content get a logarithmic boost, rewarding sites that sustain high density across lots of text.

Example

"A 500-word page where 5% of words are AI buzzwords scores 1,000 points"

AI Keyword Mentions

Weight: 5 points per mention (max 200)

Each occurrence of an AI-related keyword or phrase earns base points. We scan for 73 distinct terms. Capped at 200 points.

Example

"Our AI-powered platform uses machine learning to..."

Font Size Bonus

Weight: 1.5 points per pixel above 16px baseline (max 200)

Mentions displayed in fonts larger than 16px earn extra points, rewarding oversized AI buzzwords. Capped at 200 points.

Example

"A 48px heading saying "AI-POWERED" earns 16 bonus points"

Inline Animation Bonus

Weight: 15 points per animated mention

AI mentions that are individually animated (e.g., spinning, pulsing) earn additional points per mention.

Example

"The word "AI" spinning in a hero section"

Inline Glow Bonus

Weight: 25 points per glowing mention

AI mentions that have their own glow effect earn additional points per mention.

Example

"Neon-glowing "GENERATIVE AI" text"

Page Animations

Weight: 15 points per animation (max 10)

CSS/JS animations detected on the page contribute to the hype score, capped at 10.

Example

"Floating particles, pulsing buttons, auto-scrolling carousels"

Glow Effects

Weight: 25 points per glow effect (max 10)

Glowing box-shadows and text-shadows with visible blur radii signal peak hype, capped at 10.

Example

"Cards with neon box-shadow: 0 0 20px cyan"

Rainbow/Gradient Borders

Weight: 30 points per rainbow border (max 5)

Gradient or rainbow-colored borders are a hallmark of AI marketing aesthetics, capped at 5.

Example

"A card with a rotating conic-gradient border"

The Formula

For the mathematically curious

Hype Score = Density Score + Mention Score + Font Size Bonus + Animation Score + Visual Effects Score

AI Buzzword Density is the primary factor (up to 1,000 pts), measuring what percentage of a page's words are AI buzzwords. This normalizes for page size so small and large sites compete fairly. Mentions, font sizes, animations, and visual effects add bonus points.
